Armed police will be present at the England vs France football match following the attacks in Paris, the Metropolitan police have confirmed.

Around 70 000 supporters are expected to gather at Wembley stadium today, just five days after the strikes across the French capital which saw the death toll reach 129 people.

Kensington Palace have confirmed that FA president has also decided to attend the match.

Armed police are included as part of heightened security that are stationed both in and outside the stadium.

Deputy assistant commander Peter Terry from the Met's Specialist Crime and Operations Command said on Monday: "We've reassessed what security we think we need for tomorrow night's occasion, which will of course be a fairly sombre occasion especially considering who we're playing."

"People travelling to and from the ground will see additional police officers at transport modes, they will see additional police officers on the walk up Olympic Way to the stadium, and in and around the stadium they will see armed officers, which is something they wouldn't normally see.

Fans are urged to be aware and notice anything suspicious and to notify the nearest police officer if they do see anything of concern.

Chief Executive of the FA Martin Glenn announced earlier in the week that the match starts at 7.55pm, not 8pm, so that a number of tributes could be carried out, including the French anthem being sung.

A minute's silence will also be held as Wembley's arch shines red, white and blue to remember all those affected by the attacks.

Those attending are strongly advised to arrive earlier, where bag checking and more police on horses could mean a longer queue to enter the stadium.

Mr Glenn said: "“The global nature of the game is really important.

"The match tomorrow is going to have big global importance.

"It’s important to show terrorism can’t win.

"The eyes of the world will be on Wembley tomorrow."
