Last year amateur archaeologists discovered a stunning array of artefacts dating back as far as 1200BC in London.

The avid Indiana Jones' found such relics as a Bronze Age spear in the City of Westminster, an 1,800-year-old Libyan coin in Lambeth and a Roman medallion in Tower Hamlets.

The findings are all listed on the British Museum Portable Antiquities website.

The 2014 list for Greater London includes a fragment of a post-Medieval leather shoe dating back to AD1400-AD1700, discovered in St Katherine's and Wapping in Tower Hamlets.

The fragment, which forms part of the sole of a shoe, is listed as being found in open fresh water, as well as all the other finds.

In Southwark in June 2014, two separate Medieval treasures were discovered: a copper alloy brooch from AD1300-AD1450 and a fragment of another leather shoe, possibly worn by a child.

A spear was also found in the Vincent Square area of Westminster last year, dating back to 1200BC-750BC.

In England, Wales and Northern Ireland, anyone who finds gold or silver objects or groups of coins more than 300 years old must report them under the Treasure Act 1996.

Prehistoric base-metal objects found after January 1, 2003, also qualify.

All of the objects found in Greater London last year were given back to the person who found them.
