Lord Alan Sugar’s right-hand-man Nick Hewer visited The Fulham Boys School (FBS) shortly before the end of term to judge an Apprentice-style competition.
And he joined Chelsea & Fulham MP Greg Hands in calling for businesses to help shape a cutting-edge enterprise curriculum for the new Free school.
FBS, which has just completed it’s first academic year, held its first dedicated Enterprise week earlier this month which saw students putting their skills to the test in activities out and about in London, and design social enterprise projects to make an impact locally in the next academic year.
Mr Hands, the school’s patron, said: “It took phenomenal community enterprise to get this free school open a year ago and I’m delighted to see the entrepreneurial spirit continuing so evidently in this week’s activities.
“As the school’s patron, I urge any business interested in helping design a curriculum for 21st century enterprise to answer the school’s call for active business partnerships.”
The school is asking business to engage in blue sky thinking – understanding how it can set in train now the soft skills, the thinking skills and the enterprising attitudes that will be valued alongside boys’ A level knowledge when they leave school.
Headteacher Alun Ebenezer said: “We’re constantly searching out best practice in teaching and raising boys’ achievement, and want our first Enterprise week to highlight our quest to work with business to understand the skills that will be valued in tomorrow’s world.”
Since opening in September, activities in and outside the classroom have been encouraging pupils to develop enterprising characteristics, and culminated on July 10 with Mr Hewer chairing an Apprentice-style appraisal of projects.
FBS is set to reach its full 800-capacity in 2020.
