A large batch of luxury cakes made by the brand set up by BBC's 2016 Apprentice winner, Alana Spencer, have been recalled.

The Ridiculously Rich by Alana brand has had to recall a range of 18 cakes which may pose a health risk to people with allergens.

Alana set up the company with a £250,000 investment from Lord Sugar after beating 17 other contestants on the BBC One show last year.

The firm was ordered to recall a range of baked goods which include Belgian chocolate rocky roads, peanut butter fudge cakes and gooey chocolate brownies on Friday (December 8).

The Food Standards Agency (FSA) found the products to be incorrectly labelled for allergens and to pose a possible health risk for anyone with an allergy to soya, egg or peanuts, and/or an allergy or intolerance to wheat, barley and oats (gluten) and/or a sensitivity to sulphites.

Among the Ridiculously Rich by Alana products deemed unsafe for sale, was an indulgent "Ridiculously Rich Mixed Box" which contains a selection of six of the recalled cakes.

An FSA spokesman said: "The products recalled contain Soya, Wheat and Peanuts making it a possible health risk for anyone with an allergy to soya or peanuts, nuts, eggs or an allergy or intolerance to wheat, barley, oats (gluten), milk and/or a sensitivity to sulphites."

The affected cakes date up to December 2017 and anyone with allergies who has bought them is advised not eat them but to return them to the store for a full refund.

The company has also issued correspondence to its customers to explain why the product is being recalled and to tell them what to do if they have bought the product.
