An Ealing doctor's surgery has been rated inadequate and placed into special measures after inspectors found patients were “at risk of harm”.

Dr Nader Lewis's practice, in Brunswick Road, which looks after 1,650 people, was rated inadequate for being safe, effective, caring and well led after being inspected on May 30.

CQC inspectors, who published their findings on August 17, found that "patients were at risk of harm because systems and processes were not in place to keep them safe".

They also found governance arrangements were insufficient to provide a safe service and they were particularly concerned about the quality and integrity of patient record keeping.

Professor Ursula Gallagher, CQC deputy chief inspector of GP practices, said she was concerned that surgery had not improved since being rated as Requires Improvement in August 2015.

“I am very concerned that we have found so many problems at Dr Lewis’s practice,” she said.

“We are placing it in special measures in order to help the practice improve.

“Where necessary, another inspection will be conducted within six months, and if there is not enough improvement we will move to close the service by adopting our proposal to remove this location or cancel the provider’s registration.”

Although the CQC found Dr Lewis's practice received mixed patient feedback, the surgery's national patient survey results were “consistently below average for patient experience” of GP consultations and patient involvement in decisions.

Inspectors also received negative feedback about the practice from the manager of a local care home.

Online reviews left on the NHS website since their inspection in August 2015 have slammed the service as “appalling” and “arrogant”.

One reviewer said: “Continuously appalling service, or lack of it, provided by doctor and staff.

“This very small and run-down surgery needs serious reviewing by NHS.”

Another patient added: “I have been registered at this surgery for over 2 years and sadly not once have I received caring service, accurate information, advice or suitable medication."

However, some patients described positive experiences with the practice and said: "My family and I have been going to this doctor for over 15 years now and they have always provided us with the utmost care and attention."

The surgery declined to comment.
