An antique sculpture of a black panther worth more than £100,000 has been stolen.

Detectives from Kensington & Chelsea have released a CCTV image of a man they want to speak to in connection with the theft of the antique, created by François Pompon in 1925.

The artwork was on show during the Masterpiece Art Fair, held at the Royal Hospital in Chelsea, on Wednesday July 1.

At around 1.30pm an assistant noticed the artwork, which was displayed on a plinth, was missing.

Security were immediately notified and subsequent CCTV enquiries show the suspect taking the sculpture off the display and putting it under his jacket before leaving the building.

Detective Constable Pete O'Brien, from Kensington & Chelsea CID, said: "We know he left in a taxi which dropped him at Appold Street, at the junction with Primrose Street, near Liverpool Street station.

"If you recognise the man or know of his whereabouts please contact police."

The sculpture is bronze and measures 14cm-high by 37cm-long.
