There were 20 anti-Semitic incidents reported in west London boroughs between January and June this year.

These included three assaults - two in Hillingdon and one in Harrow - and five incidents of abusive behaviour reported in Harrow. Further abusive behaviour against Jews was reported in Hammersmith and Fulham, Hounslow, Kensington and Chelsea, Richmond-upon-Thames and Westminster.

The Community Security Trust, which monitors anti-Semitism in Britain, compiled the figures.

Across London there was a 53.2 per cent rise in anti-Semitic incidents in the first half of 2014 compared to the equivalent period in 2013. The total rose from 94 to 144. Assaults rose from six to 13 incidents. In West London the total went up from 19 to 20 incidents.

Barnet had the most anti-Semitic incidents of any London borough with 47 - or nearly one third of the entire total in the capital.

The borough is home to the largest Jewish community of any council in England and Wales - more than 54,000 people in the borough are Jewish according to the 2011 Census.

Overall in London there are more than 148,000 Jews - more than half the Jewish population in England and Wales.
