'Another knife off the streets': Teenager sentenced for possession of large serrated blade and numerous wraps of cannabis

The 15-year-old was arrested on July 12

A teenager has been sentenced after being found with a large knife.

The teenager, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was approached by British Transport Police PCSO's after matching him to a description of a suspect in a robbery at the station earlier in the day.

Seeing the officers, the North London teenager fled over the footbridge and was seen by police to throw a black object over the fence.

Officers managed to catch and detain him before finding a knife in a black sheath during a search of the area.

After arriving into custody, three wraps of cannabis were recovered from him during a search.

"I would like to commend the PCSOs for being able to stop the teenager and detain him whilst awaiting assistance" said PC Ibi Ahmed.

"Thanks to the hard work of the officers that arrived on scene this led to a successful conviction of an individual who was carrying a knife whilst using the TfL rail service.

"This will hopefully send out a clear message to anybody carrying knives out in the public domain.

"It is another knife off the streets and could potentially have prevented a crime from occurring."

The teen was arrested at Highbury and Islington station on July 12 this year.

While appearing at Croydon Magistrates’ Court on August 3, the teenager pleaded guilty to possession of a bladed article and class B controlled drugs.

He was sentenced to a four month detention and training order, meaning he will be required to spend half of the time in custody and half in the community.

The sentence also means he should pay a £30 victim surcharge and he has been prohibited from carrying a hunting knife due to an order under Section 143 of the Powers of Criminal Courts Act 2000.
