An ambulance vehicle in Greenford had its tyres slashed as paramedics tried to help a pedestrian who was critically hurt in a road accident on Saturday (July 2) night, police have said.

The incident happened after the ambulance had gone onto the A40 at around 11.30pm after a man in his 40s was hit by a car.

Traffic officers used CS spray on the offender to detain him after he used the knife to slash the tyres on the London Ambulance Service (LAS) response car that was giving aid to the injured pedestrian.

A spokeswoman from the police said that victim of the road accident is currently in a critical condition after being taken to hospital.

She added: "A man approached an LAS response vehicle parked at the scene and (proceeded) to slash the tyres with a knife.

"Traffic officers deployed CS spray and the man was arrested on suspicion of criminal damage and possession of a bladed article. He is in custody at a west London police station."
