Police believe Arnis Zalkalns, the prime suspect over the murder of Hanwell schoolgirl Alice Gross, may still be in the UK.

Officers hunting the 41-year-old Latvian builder, have CCTV of him withdrawing cash from an ATM at a Co-op in Isleworth on September 2, the day before he disappeared.

Zalkalns served seven years in jail in his home country for the murder of his wife Rudite , and was filmed by a CCTV camera cycling along a stretch of the Grand Union Canal 15 minutes after Alice Gross passed on foot. That was on August 28, the day Alice disappeared.

Her body was recovered from the River Brent on Tuesday this week (October 1) wrapped in plastic and hidden under logs in a pit dug into a river bed. It would have been hard to dig in the river without being seen at that time so police are still scouring the surrounding area to see if the body was temporarily concealed before being put into the water.

A post-mortem on 14-year-old Alice was held on Wednesday and Thursday but has failed to determine the cause of death. Further tests are now required.

Earlier this week police cordoned off a shed in Isleworth that had been used by Zalkalns, as part of the search for clues.

Floral tributes have been left at the clock in Hanwell town centre in tribute to Alice.

Alice Gross' family have requested that flowers should be left at Hanwell Clock Tower
