The prestige of London Fashion Week has gone up another notch as British fashion house Alexander McQueen announced it would show its Fall Collection in the capital during the February dates.

The brand, led by Sarah Burton, announced yesterday morning that it will show its collection in London rather than Paris, breaking a tradition that hasn't changed for 13 years.

McQueen is famously known for its unique catwalk shows, often controversial and shocking.

Taking place in February in west London's Brewer Street, London Fashion Week will welcome back Burberry, Christopher Kane and Erdem alongside McQueen for an autumn winter 2016 collection showdown.

British Fashion Council officials also announced that luxury brand Mulberry and shoe designer Charlotte Olympia will also be returning to London in February.

A spokesperson for Alexander McQueen said: “We wanted to look at doing something different for the season.”

February's fashion week draws in celebrities and top fashion names from across the world, including Vogue's Anna Wintour, Kate Moss and Alexa Chung.

The legacy of Alexander McQueen meanwhile, has been remembered at several museums across London including Kensington's Victoria and Albert Museum's sell out exhibition Savage Beauty and the Tate Britain's intimate Nick Waplington and McQueen's photography exhibition.
