A cyclist is in a serious but stable condition after being airlifted to hospital following a crash on the A4 Great West Road in Osterley, police have said.

The man, reported to be in his mid-30s, was involved in a collision with a car near the junction with Lampton Road on Saturday (June 6), shortly before 6.30pm.

The busy road was closed in both directions to allow London's Air Ambulance to land before taking the casualty to an east London hospital.

A spokesman for the Met Police said, on Monday morning (June 8), that the man remained in hospital in a "serious but stable condition".

He said officers had been called by London Ambulance Service at 6.26pm to reports of a collision involving a pedal cyclist and a car.

One witness described the incident on Twitter as the "worst motorbike accident ever", though police said the crash had involved a pedal bike.

Another witness took to Twitter to express their astonishment that the air ambulance had managed to land and take off "with only three lanes of space".
