A man is back behind bars after admitting making intimidating phone calls using a prison phone.

Taleb Zaher, 21, of Westbourne Park Road, near Notting Hill, called his victim 35 times after he was previously jailed for two counts of actual bodily harm, battery, harassment, criminal damage, theft and breach of a probation order.

He told her to email the officer in the case and tell them he had not done anything wrong, and to withdraw the case and not to attend his appeal hearing.

He added that he would hurt her and damage her family home if she did not obey him.

Despite these terrifying calls, made between December 23 2016, and February 20 this year, Zaher won his appeal against his original conviction on Monday April 10.

But police obtained recordings of the telephone calls after the victim contacted them, and Zaher was arrested immediately after his appeal and charged the next day.

When Zaher was initially interviewed he denied knowing about the restraining order, saying he only found out in March 2017.

However, throughout the phone recordings Zaher refers to the restraining order and tells the victim that she needs to get it lifted.

Detective Inspector Natalie Norris, from Ealing’s community safety unit, said: "Zaher was clearly in full breach of his restraining order and repeatedly lied about having no knowledge of it.

"It is also crystal clear that Zaher placed the victim under immense pressure to pervert the course of justice.

"I am would like to commend the victim for her courage and for coming to us and helping to ensure Zaher has been brought to justice."

Zaher was originally sentenced to one year’s imprisonment at Harrow Crown Court, on December 22, 2016, and was given a restraining order with a condition not to contact the victim.

After his appeal and re-arrest, he pleaded guilty at the same court on Wednesday (May 10) to perverting the course of justice, witness intimidation and breaching a restraining order.

He was sentenced to 12 months' imprisonment on Friday (May 12).
