A road in west London has been closed amid a heavy police presence on Thursday (September 21) morning.

A witness says there is a "massive amount of police" close to the Iceland store near East Acton Station, in Shepherd's Bush .

Transport for London (TfL) is reporting Old Oak Common Lane at the junction with Du Cane Road is closed in both directions, and says to expect delays in the area.

Bus journeys are also being affected, TfL warns.

Comment from the IPCC

getwestlondon has just spoken to the Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC).

A spokesman said at present it was not investigating the incident, saying it does not fall into the mandatory referral category.

He said: “Whether the Met choose to refer it, it would be down to them.

“It would be a voluntary referral.”

Statement from LAS

According to this statement from the London Ambulance Service, the firearm went off shortly after 5.30am.

An LAS spokesman told getwestlondon:

We were called today at 5.37am to Old Oak Common Lane, W3 to reports of an incident.

“We sent an ambulance crew, an incident response officer and a single responder in a car to the scene.

“We treated a man at the scene for a foot injury, and took him to a major trauma centre as a priority.”

Possible burglary nearby?

Hammersmith and Fulham Police have tweeted this. Is it possible this is linked to this morning’s incident?

More from the Met

He has been taken to a central London hospital for treatment - his condition is not life threatening.

“There were no other injuries and no other shots fired.

“The Directorate of Professional Standards has been informed - enquiries continue.”

Here’s a statement from the Met:

At approximately 04:20hrs on Thursday, 21 September firearms officers attended an address in Old Oak Common Lane, W3 to carry out a welfare check on an occupant there.

“After completing the call and leaving the address, a police firearm was discharged by one of the officers causing an injury to his foot.”
