A collision on the A40 early on Monday morning (October 17) in Ealing caused lane closures and long queues for commuters.

The crash was reported at around 6.40am at the A40 Western Avenue junction with Mansfield Road and blocked two of three lanes heading into central London.

One lane remained closed shortly after 7am with long delays continuing and congestion building along the A40 back to the A437 Hillingdon Circus.

The hold ups were reported to add an expected 42 minutes to journeys by one traffic site.

BBC London Travel's Twitter account said at around 6.40am: “A40 into town – long queues from well before Hanger Lane (A406). There's been a breakdown/ collision at Mansfield Road by the B&Q/Staples.”

Transport for London confirmed the crash and congestion shortly after.

A road in Hayes was also expected to be closed until Monday following a burst water main on Saturday (October 15).
