A collision between two cars forced the A40 to shut on Tuesday morning (August 29) after a car turned on to its roof.

The accident happened on the A40 in Hillingdon near the Polish War Memorial, on the eastbound branch of the busy A road heading out of London.

One person had to be removed from their car and was taken to hospital. They did not sustain life-changing or life-threatening injuries, according to Metropolitan Police .

London Fire Brigade and London Ambulance Service also attended the scene after being called out at around 6.21am.

Restrictions were placed on traffic flow on the A road, causing long tailbacks as far as the Target Roundabout.

The road was then closed to all traffic and motorists, who were diverted around the scene of the crash using the slip roads at the junction with Long Lane.

The road was reopened at around 11.30am, around five hours after the crash.
