The victim of a fire at a Brentford tower block has been named as 72-year-old Surapol Tassadetan.

Mr Tassadetan died following a fire at his 20th floor flat on the evening of Wednesday October 26.

Hounslow Council's cabinet member for housing, Councillor Katherine Dunne, said: “We were extremely saddened to hear of the death of Mr Tassadetan.

"We send our sincere condolences to Mr Tassadetan’s family and friends."

The pensioner was found in the hallway in Fraser House in Green Dragon Lane, Brentford, Hounslow and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Over 20 residents were evacuated from the scene

Six fire engines and 35 firefighters were sent to the scene following reports of a fire to London Fire Brigade at 10.39pm.

Crews were sent from Chiswick, Acton, Richmond, Ealing and Hammersmith fire stations.

More than 20 residents who were evacuated from the building have since been allowed to return home, except those living on the floor affected by the fire.

Councillor Katherine Dunne said support is in place for residents.

“Officers from our housing service team have been on site constantly at Brentford Towers estate working closely with the emergency services to assist them and also provide facilities for all residents on the estate during the evacuation, including hotel accommodation for the resident who lived nearest to the flat," she said.

Police and the London Fire Brigade confirmed that the fire had been contained to the one flat, which remains cordoned off.

Investigations into the cause of the fire continue.
