Swimming caps were at the ready in Acton on Wednesday (October 12) as almost 700 children took part in a mini triathlon.

Youngsters from all over the borough came to Park Club Acton to swim, cycle and run their way to good health.

Triathletes Alistair Brownlee MBE, who won Olympic gold in 2012 and 2016, and brother Jonny Brownlee who won Olympic silver in 2016, teamed up with yoghurt brand The Collective to organise the race.

It came as part of an attempt from the pair and The Collective, whose headquarters are based in Park Club Acton, to "help children in London get active and embrace the outdoors".

A total of 650 children aged seven and eight took in the event, which included a 25-metre swim, an 800-metre cycle and a 400-metre run.

In a statement, Alistair and Jonny Brownlee said: "This is the first triathlon we have hosted in London and we are delighted.

"The Collective have been long supporters of the Brownlee Foundation and have the same vision as us to encourage children in the UK to become more active and appreciate their surroundings.

"The purpose of the event is to encourage children to get involved in more sport and exercise in their everyday lives."

The foundation is an organising which aims inspire primary school kids to get into sport."
