A boy aged 16 has been charged following the failed smash and grab at a Victoria jewellers .

It follows the attempted robbery at Suttons & Robertsons on Thursday (January 26) morning, with images on social media appearing to show smashed glass at the store’s entrance.

A member of the public detained a suspect but the rest of the five man gang, who were on three mopeds, left the scene in Victoria Street.

A teenager has been charged with conspiracy to rob and is due to appear at Wimbledon Youth Court on Friday (January 27) morning.

Police were called at 10.30am to reports of people smashing windows at the jewellery store.

Officers said thieves were disturbed by passing members of the public and approaching police sirens, and believe they fled the scene empty-handed.

The four suspects which fled are described as males wearing dark clothing, one with a light coloured helmet and the others with dark coloured helmets.

No members of the public or anyone at the store suffered injuries.

Detectives from the Flying Squad are investigating and are appealing for any witnesses to the incident or anyone with any information about the suspects to contact them.
