Footage has emerged of the dramatic scene in which punters were forced to flee their local pub, The Castle, due to a fire.

Grant Slater, who lives opposite the pub and is a regular, shot the footage.

He said: “I was intrigued by the siren and commotion and leaned out the window to see black smoke billowing from the rear kitchen section of the pub, which was then emptied out across the street.

“The fire engine had just arrived with firefighters suiting up in protective kit with breathing masks and punters and staff were soon joined by intrigued locals.

“There was no panic at the scene but it looked at one stage like the roof was going to catch fire.”

The second floor living area was left badly damaged by the flames and heat but fire crews managed to stop the blaze after being called out at 4.35pm. The establishment remains closed for the time being but the pub told getwestlondon that they hope to reopen as soon as possible.
