Ever wondered why you've not scored a 5.0 rating on Uber ?

You're polite, you don't stuff your face with cheese covered goods in the car and you sing along to the radio pitch-perfect, so why no five-stars?

While Uber says achieving a 5.0 is rare - the score is based on your average ratings from multiple trips - it does now give handy tips on how you can be the perfect passenger.

Rule number one: "That slice of pizza can wait."

When it was announced on Tuesday (August 15) that the taxi firm was changing rules around wait times and tips, we got curious and had a play on the app.

That's where we discovered the "no pizza" rule! Uber must feel strongly about this, the app tells you twice.

So why is the rating important?

Uber says: "Ratings allows us to ensure a great experience with Uber for both riders and partner-drivers.

"In the same way you rate partner-drivers, partner-drivers can rate riders on a scale of 1-5 stars after each trip."

How is the rating calculated?

Basically, it's an average score.

Ratings are anonymous, so you'll never know exactly which drunken adventure brought down your rating and likewise, your driver won't know what you've given them.

Uber says: "Very few people have a perfect rating, so don't despair if your average isn't 5.0."

Phew, good to know.

What do drivers consider when rating riders?

Uber says "things that seem small to you can matter to your driver" - this means slamming doors accidentally, for example.

"Knowing a little more about the things that affect partner-drivers' happiness can help you become a 5-star rider."

OK, so how can I get five stars?

Don't make your driver wait around. Uber says: "Partner-drivers love it when riders are ready to go when they arrive at the pick up locations."

Be nice, obviously. "A positive attitude and considerate use of the car go a long way," says Uber. "That slice of pizza can wait." It then repeats this point again - OK Uber, we've gotcha!

Wear your seatbelt. Ultimately, the driver is responsible for your safety, so don't put them in a bad situation by breaking the law. Simples.
