FBI CHIEF COMEY 'WANTED MORE RESOURCES FOR TRUMP-RUSSIA PROBE'

FBI director James Comey requested more resources to pursue his investigation into Russia's election meddling and the possible involvement of Donald Trump associates, days before he was fired by the president, US officials have said.

The revelation has fuelled concerns that Mr Trump was trying to undermine a probe that could threaten his presidency.

It is unclear whether word of the Comey request, put to deputy attorney general Rod Rosenstein, ever made its way to Mr Trump, but the news intensified the pressure on the White House from both political parties to explain the motives behind Mr Comey's stunning removal.

NATIONALISATION OF KEY INDUSTRIES 'IN LEAKED DRAFT OF LABOUR MANIFESTO'

Jeremy Corbyn will go into the General Election pledging to nationalise key industries and reverse years of austerity, according to a leaked draft of the Labour manifesto.

The 43-page document sets out plans to take the energy industry, railways, buses and the Royal Mail back under public control.

It commits Labour to scrapping tuition fees, boosting workers' rights and reversing a series of benefits cuts - including the so-called bedroom tax.

WOMAN SHOT DURING POLICE RAID AND TWO OTHERS FACE COURT ON TERRORISM CHARGES

Three women including one who was shot during a police raid are due to appear in court charged with preparing a terrorist act and conspiracy to murder.

Londoners Rizlaine Boular, 21, Khawla Barghouthi, 20, and Mina Dich, 43, were charged on Wednesday after their arrests last month, Scotland Yard said.

Boular, of central London, was shot by police during a raid by elite armed offices at a terraced house in Harlesden Road, north London, on April 27.

EU CITIZENS LIVING IN UK MAKE PLEA TO BRUSSELS TO 'PRESERVE RIGHTS'

EU citizens living in the UK are in Brussels to urge members of the European Parliament and Commission to ensure their rights are guaranteed after Brexit.

Anne-Laure Donskoy will tell MEPs that EU citizens' rights "to work, to marry, to have access to health services and education, to build a business" are "at risk" and should be "guaranteed and preserved not just for the short or medium term but permanently".

Ms Donskoy, co-chair of the 3 million group, a grassroots organisation formed after the Brexit referendum to campaign for the rights of EU citizens in the UK, is addressing MEPs, including the Parliament's Brexit coordinator Guy Verhofstadt.

BARCLAYS AGREES SETTLEMENT AFTER US OVERCHARGING CLAIMS

Barclays has agreed a settlement of 97 million dollars (£75 million) over allegations it overcharged more than 2,000 of its investment bank clients.

The US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) said it took enforcement action against Barclays Capital over alleged violations that the organisation said saw clients overcharged by nearly 50 million dollars (£39 million).

The SEC said it found two of the British lender's advisory programmes charged fees to more than 2,000 clients for services that were not performed as sold.

PRESCRIPTIONS STUDY MAY HELP GPS DIAGNOSE CANCER EARLIER, EXPERTS SAY

MOTORISTS DEMANDING SWIFTER ACTION TO FIX POTHOLES

More than three quarters (76%) of drivers say potholes should be filled within a week, a survey has found.

The AA poll of more than 18,000 motorists also found that almost a fifth (18%) think 24 hours is the maximum time it should take for repairs to be completed.

Councils are expected to fill the most dangerous potholes within a few hours, but it can take several months to fix defects deemed less significant.

A panel of international experts argue that all the evidence suggests that surgery does not result in a lasting improvement in pain or function for those with degenerative knee disease - also known as osteoarthritis of the knee.

SNAPCHAT'S PARENT COMPANY REPORTS £1.7BN LOSS IN FIRST EARNINGS REPORT

Snapchat's parent company Snap Inc has reported a net loss of more than 2.2 billion dollars (£1.7 billion) in the company's first ever earnings report.

The loss was higher than some analysts predicted, and follows a steady drop in the company's share price amid pressure from rivals, including Facebook.

Snapchat floated on the US stock market in March and in early trading saw its valuation rise above £25 billion.
