Firefighters helped around 80 people leave two trains stranded between Willesden Junction and Shepherd’s Bush stations when a power cable fell onto the track.

They were stuck after a JCB collided with overhead power cables as it crossed the track at a level crossing, causing a small fire.

Two engines from north Kensington worked with police and Network Rail to help the passengers alight safely.

Station Manager Gareth Cook said: “Firefighters quickly controlled the fire and it was very lucky that the driver of the JCB escaped unhurt.”

They were called to the scene on Sunday at 10.18am and left at 12.45pm.
