A new mum was left furious after her mother-in-law sneaked into the recovery area and held her baby before she'd had the chance.

A post on Mumsnet described how the new mum was recovering from an emergency c-section while her husband's mum - a doctor herself - gained access to the recovery area to get an unscheduled first meeting with her new grandchild.

And to make matters worse, the midwives present indiscreetly let slip personal medical information to the mother-in-law, reports The Mirror .

Sharing her story on her Mumsnet , the irate new mum said: "I had my daughter six weeks ago.

"It was a traumatic birth and ended in emergency section. As they took me into theatre, husband called his mum as he was so shook up and just wanted some support.

"She is a doctor and works in the same trust as I was delivering in, although she doesn't work in the women's hospital.

"Anyway, she was able to obtain access to the recovery area with her works access card, and just let herself in without permission.

The new mum was still being operated on when her mother-in-law sneaked in

"I wasn't asked if it was okay if she could be there, and because I was being stitched up in theatre still, she held my daughter before I even got to.

"I'm so angry and upset about this.

"Prior to going into labour, I'd discussed with my husband that I didn't want anyone visiting for at least a day or so, let alone have my mother-in-law there before I've even held my own child.

"A doctor came and spoke to me whilst I was in recovery and mentioned some very personal information about me, medically, which she then overheard too.

"I'm actually in tears this morning thinking about it all again and so angry and upset still."

It is not known what hospital this incident happened in but the ECHO understands it is not Liverpool Women's Hospital.

The situation certainly struck a chord with many mums, with several sympathetic replies appearing under the original post.

One said: "That sounds awful, and not one thing you have mentioned is right."

Another mum fumed: "I'm so sorry. What a w****r that woman is.

"You are completely justified in feeling violated and angry. You're also justified in feeling unsupported and let down by your husband."

These sentiments were largely echoed by all the other outraged mums participating, although one added: "Your mother-in-law only did what her son asked her to. As a parent it seems natural she would support her child."
