Billionaire businessman turned shock politician Mr Trump will take the Oath of Office at around 5pm UK time today (Friday, January 20).

Outgoing president Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama greeted Mr Trump and his wife Melania when they arrived at the White House earlier.

Hundreds of thousands of people are expected in the US capital, Washington DC, to watch the major event – both supporters and protesters.

After he takes the oath, Mr Trump will make his inaugural speech, the first time he will address the American public (and the world) as the President of the United States.

Some politicians have vowed to boycott the event, including more than 50 Democrats.
