As thousands of pupils across west London prepare to return to school this week, parents have rushed to ensure they've got the correct uniform for their children's first day back.
But choosing the right school clothing is not as easy as it seems.
Last September, a school in southeast England made headlines after headmaster Matthew Tate sent home more than 60 pupils whose uniforms failed to match the school's exacting standards.
The uniform rules, which had been circulated to parents before the start of term, included a ban on all footwear that wasn't plain black, and similarly strict directives insisting on formal black trousers and jumpers.
According to the Department of Education, each school decides its uniform and is responsible to ensure pupils stick to it.
