Triple murder suspect Arthur Simpson-Kent has been arrested at Heathrow Airport after being extradited from Ghana.

The 48-year-old was held at Heathrow after arriving in the UK on a flight just after 5am on Friday (February 12).

Mr Simpson-Kent was then arrested on suspicion of the murders of Sian Blake, 43, and her children Zachery, eight, and Amon, four, at their home in Erith, Greater London.

Simpson-Kent left the family home on Wednesday December 16 to live on a coconut plantation on the West African coast.

He was arrested in Africa on Saturday January 9 after villagers in Butri led police to a cove where he had been swimming. He told a court last month he would return to the UK freely to face the charges.

One month after his arrest, Simpson-Kent was handed over by the Ghanaian authorities to Scotland Yard. He was guarded by police on the plane and arrested when he arrived at Heathrow.

In Erith, the missing persons search for Sian and her children became a murder hunt when their bodies were found buried in the family's back garden on Sunday January 3, where a knife was used on the children.

Metropolitan Police officers arrived in Accra, Ghana on Tuesday (February 9), filled in all the paperwork necessary for the hand-over on Wednesday (February 10) and brought the suspect back on the night of Thursday February 11.

Mr Simpson-Kent is currently in police custody at a west London police station.
