2017 marks the 50th anniversary of the release of Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band by The Beatles.

So what's the link with Hayes?

Well copies of the band's best-selling album, which spent 27 weeks at number one after its release in 1967, were made at the Old Vinyl Factory in Blyth Road.

The former EMI factory was also where albums from Frank Sinatra, The Rolling Stones, David Bowie and Queen were made.

Getwestlondon has dug up some old pictures to celebrate.

Hillingdon Council and Transport for London (TfL) said it will invest £9m into Hayes town centre - featuring a landmark celebrating musical heritage.

A disc-shaped canopy will act as a recreational area.

Under the plans, the Old Vinyl Factory itself will be turned into new homes, commercial units, multi-storey car park and green public areas.

Richard Upton, deputy CEO of U+I, said: "To music-lovers of the 1960s and 1970s, Hayes was the centre of the record-making universe.

"A place the world listened to. This was where vinyl was made and technology was advanced.

"We're delighted to bring life back to The Old Vinyl Factory and we continue to be inspired by the history of the site, whilst building a future that generations can benefit from and enjoy once again."
