There's something magical about the moment Christmas lights are finally turned on.

For the crowds of people who take over west London's streets, switch-ons mark the beginning of the festive season.

Events take place all over the capital and places such as Ealing , Hounslow and Uxbridge are no exception.

Wherever the event is, one thing is certain - the illuminations rarely fail to get people into the seasonal spirit.

As thousands of pretty twinkling lights switch on over the next month, we take a look back at some of most memorable moments from previous years.

Let's start with Uxbridge.

If you were around in 2014, you will surely remember what has been described as the town's " biggest and best ever " festive lights switch-on.

In an attempt to recreate a "traditional" event, a candlelit parade led by Santa Claus snaked through The Pavilions.

After the parade, both shopping centres and the High Street were illuminated simultaneously.

In 2012, a memorable switch-on also happened in Ealing.

Around 7,000 people took over Pitshanger Lane to enjoy music, magic and plenty more festive fun as they celebrated the switch-on of the Christmas lights.

Street entertainers, a magician and a strolling Santa delighted audiences.

In addition, yummy food was provided by locals pubs, cafes and restaurants.

Every year, dozens of public events also take place in Hounslow, but the borough is better known for its residents who often illuminate their homes with thousands of colourful lights.

In 2014, crowds gathered to witness the annual switch-on outside Derek and Theresa Brent's home in South Ruislip.

The couple got the ladders out to decorate their home and raise cash for Cancer Research UK, a charity close to their hearts.

Similarly, Nick Yates, a 54-year old who lost a leg in a motorcycle accident , has been illuminating the skies above Bedfont for a decade and, in 2015, raised almost £1,000 for Binfield Dog Rescue.

From bright houses to beautifully decorated high streets, Feltham residents are in for a treat every year - and 2008 was no exception .

The town centre lit up to celebrate the best time of year with a little help from Father Christmas and his trusty reindeer,

A resident commented at the time: "The lights switch-on was fantastic, it really feels like Christmas now."

This year, the festive fun returns to west London's streets and shopping centres with dozens of events set to help you get into the Christmas spirit - even if you're feeling Scroogey.
