I would like to take the opportunity to thank borough commander Carl Bussey and everyone in the Hounslow police force for all they are doing to reduce crime levels in our area.

In London, Mayor Boris Johnson has set an ambitious target to reduce crime levels by 20%. Crime levels in the Hounslow borough have fallen by 15.7% in the last year, putting it at the top of the table for all London boroughs.

Overall crime levels across the country are down too as the Crime Survey published in October found that crime levels have more than halved since their peak in 1995. I hope we can build on this success in the coming year as I know crime and the fear of crime is something that affects people very much, especially following recent events like the dreadful hit and run incident in Brentford.

Domestic violence incidents continue to concern me and when I visited Borough Commander Bussey recently I was pleased to hear that tackling domestic violence continues to be one of their top priorities.

Burglaries too have also been a growing concern, particularly in some areas in Chiswick. Local police have taken a number of steps to alleviate the problem including putting more neighbourhood officers on the streets but I believe there is more we can do as a community to remain vigilant and prevent burglaries.

I have organised a public meeting to discuss the issue of burglaries on  Saturday 9 November  from  10:30am – 11:30  at  St. Paul’s Church, 56 Grove Park Road, Chiswick, W4 3SB.

A member of Hounslow police will be in attendance to talk about what the police are doing to reduce burglaries in the area and to discuss the concerns of local residents. Do please come along if you would like to find out what’s being done to prevent crime and what more you can do to protect yourself.
