She was politeness personified, affectionate and calm. After our meeting, I thought I would take a second look at Karen, this time in her kennel – and I saw Karen’s other side.

Visit to the aunt over, she could now get back to business - boisterous play with her kennel mate. Boxers are renowned for being extrovert and energetic as well as loyal and fun-loving and Karen looks like she is no exception.

Karen is seeking an owner who has had dogs before where she can be the only dog in the home. If this could be you call 01895 453930 or see her at Harvil Rd, Harefield UB9 6JW.  New owners should know that Karen can open doors.

If you know a child who likes art and loves animals, this exciting RSPCA competition could be for them. Volkswagen Commercial vehicles have donated 6 vans to the RSPCA for animal transport. They are inviting children (4-12 years) to design the outside of the vans. They want each van to tell people about the work of the RSPCA. See details, including a plan of the van at www.rspca.org.uk.

Readers who saw Channel 5’s programme Dangerous Dog Owners and Proud and witnessed the scenes of irresponsible dog ownership may like to know that, in an article entitled Dangerous Dogs, Reckless Owners and Irresponsible Programme Makers (www.nawt.org.uk), the Chief Executive of the National Animal Welfare Trust, Clare Williams, calls for a programme about responsible dog owners to be made to redress the balance.

We can find out more about the work of the Trust at their Open Day on August 31(11am-3pm) at Watford-By-Pass WD25 8WT.

Finally, Hounslow Animal Welfare Society will be having a stall at Kew Horticultural Society Summer Show on August 30 (11am-5.30pm) on Kew Green.
