The suspicious death of a woman in Northolt is being investigated by police.

Detectives found the body of a 38-year-old woman inside a house in Merton Avenue last night (May 27) after being called at about 9pm.

A 41-year-old man was arrested near the scene later in the evening and was taken to a west London police station where he remains in custody.

Officers believe they know the identity of the woman who was pronounced dead at the scene, but are waiting for formal identification and a post-mortem will be arranged.

Neighbours said that police officers, who are still on the scene, are giving them no information.

One neighbour, who does not wish to be named, confirmed that it was a Pakistani couple living in the house with two children, a boy and a girl.

She said: “It’s very upsetting to have all of this. The family have lived here for about eight years. They keep themselves to themselves and are very quiet. We are all very confused and upset and are waiting to know what happened.”

David Dwyer, Chairman of the Wood End Residents Association, said he received calls from people living in Merton Avenue last night, concerned about what was going on.

He said: “Forensics were going into a house in the street last night. There was police presence in cars at 7am this morning in nearby Pilgrims Close who had been there all night. Police were interviewing a lot of the neighbours last night and one of the houses is all sealed off this morning with police tape.”

Anyone with information that may assist the investigation should call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
