Hundreds of Londoners paid respects during a touching candlelit vigil at Trafalgar Square on Thursday (March 24) evening.

In partnership with City Hall and the Belgian Embassy, the vigil took place between 6pm and 10pm, with Londoners paying their respects with flowers and candles.

A 25-metre silk flag was laid on the steps at Trafalgar Square, with mourners sheltering from the evening rain.

London's famous landmarks were also lit up on Wednesday (March 23) evening in tribute to the horrifying terror attacks, which claimed 32 lives.

The capital joined cities across the world, including Paris and Rome, with famous landmarks taking part in the touching tribute including Wembley Stadium , the National Gallery, Tower Bridge and the London Eye.

Speaking following the devastating attacks, Mayor of London, Boris Johnson said: “The scenes in Belgium were truly appalling and it is important we pay tribute to the victims, as well as show our solidarity with the people of Brussels.

“They have the sympathy of every Londoner and our thoughts will be with them as they do their best to recover from this despicable atrocity.”
