TEENAGERS will be able to enjoy youth activities and emotional support now a charity has opened a satellite office on Harrow’s largest social housing estate.
Youngsters will have access to youth workers and meeting space and could take part in outreach projects that aim to increase community cohesion and reduce anti-social and aggressive behaviour.
With the help of landlord Home Group, The Ignite Trust in Headstone Drive, Wealdstone, has taken over The Beacon Shop in The Beacon Centre, a community centre for people living on Rayners Lane Estate in Scott Crescent.
Dan Burke, director of Ignite Trust, said: “This initiative has really cemented the relationship between Ignite and Home Group that is transforming the lives of young people. Ignite aims to educate, inform and inspire young people to make a difference and reach their full potential, not only in the immediate future but also in the long-term.
“The shop will provide a permanent base for Ignite in the neighbourhood and will help us to further develop our programmes for young people.”
The Ignite Trust works with vulnerable young people aged between 13 and 19 from disadvantaged backgrounds and furnished the shop after Home Group’s community investment fund paid for the conversion of the shop into an office.
It was opened by Mr Burke and Emma Hartley-Miller, an actress who stars in the London girl gang movie Sket, on Monday afternoon.
