A leaflet in my local library asks me: "Middlesex, what does it mean to you?", and what my town means to me.

They mean a great deal to me, having had the honour of being its mayor many years ago.

There is a danger of losing the distinctiveness of our Middlesex towns, as they become swallowed into a London mishmash, so that many will write with their thoughts, their memories and their stories of Middlesex past and present to the Historic Counties Trust - email middlesex@historiccountiestrust.co.uk - to say what makes their home town and their county what they are. Let us keep our Middlesex alive.

Alternatively, write to Middlesex, what does it mean, 38 Pinewood Drive, Potters Bar, Middlesex, EN6 2BD.
