EALING council is inviting people to mount their bikes and explore the borough in a series of free guided rides.

The Ticket to Ride event is open to cyclists of all levels and will take place on June 23 as part of National Bike Week.

Marshals will lead groups on an 11 mile route along roads, the canal towpath and through parks, taking in the sights while building confidence.

Groups will leave Gunnersbury and Brent Lodge parks in Acton and Hanwell on the hour from 10am until 4pm. Each ride is expected to take two to three hours to complete with breaks along the way and cyclists can choose to complete only part of the route if they prefer.

Dr Bike health checks will be available at both locations and there will also be information about Ealing’s cycling activities and training.

Councillor Bassam Mahfouz , cabinet member for environment and transport, who will be taking part, said: "We want to get more people cycling in Ealing. It promises to be a great day out for all the family and offers to boost cyclists’ confidence by showing them an easy and enjoyable way to keep fit and help them feel safer when they’re on the road.”
