A DIGITAL artist and illustrator is exhibiting her work at Northolt library this month.

Levi Richards, 21, will display designs commissioned by Ealing Mencap along with pieces from her self-made game footage project until April 27.

Her creation, Toy Lazfar, will be shown completed on paper and digitally in her signature underground ‘toon’ style.

The Northolt artist said: “I try to do exhibitions for people to see my work and to get commissions. The more you try to wow, the more attention you draw to yourself. I want to say to the world: this is me and this is what I do.”

Miss Richards, who often goes by her tag name, alter ego and signature character ‘Lazfar,’ was commissioned to design the front and back covers of Ealing Mencap’s 2012 annual report, released in January.

This followed her successful illustrations for their 2011 report and some work she does for the charity’s online pages. She has been artistic since high school but now takes great enjoyment in doing it professionally.

Miss Richards said: “It was my one main ambition; I have been interested in art and the creative side all my life. I work non-stop because I’m passionate about what I do and want to show people that I’m worthy of projects.”

Miss Richards says her style has developed and become unique over the years.

She said: “When I was 14 I was taken out of school because of being severely bullied, so I started teaching myself how to draw. At that time it was mainly fine art but now I want to branch out. I feel like no one can touch me when I’m drawing – it’s almost like being in my own world, my bubble.”

Miss Richards says her specialities are illustration, animation and quirky things, which were inspired by material she saw on the internet.

She said her mum, who she lives with, is a big fan of her work and has commissioned her to do three Amy Winehouse sketches.

The illustrator completed her art and design studies at West Thames College in 2011 but did not learn as much about the techniques of animation as she wanted. So she taught herself to draw digitally after she left.
