JUST what Hillingdon was hoping for, another heavy helping of snow has arrived this morning.

Trains have already been affected, with minor delays on the Picadilly Line betweeen Acton and Uxbridge, and the Metropolitan Line also running with delays.

At present, most schools are running as normal, although four schools have closed fully or partially.

These are: Stockley Academy (closed to years 7-10s), Swakeley's (7-9s), Bishop Ramsey (7-9s) and Meadow High School.

Also closed for the afternoon are both Abbotsfield and Moorcroft schools.

Several day centres have also confirmed their closure, including, Woodside, Park View, Phoenix, and Rural Activities Garden Centre.

One event has fallen victim to the weather, the planned Townfield Community Day in Hayes, tomorrow afternoon, has been cancelled.

A 'Patients in Partnership' meeting scheduled for this afternoon at Hillingdon Hospital was also cancelled due to the bad weather.

However, the snow seems to have caught services napping, with roads and pavements remaining ungritted during the rush hour.

Malcolm Brown, of Newdigate Road, Harefield, said: "Where are the council? There should be lorries with snow ploughs clearing the snow, I went to the hospital for an appointment this morning and was sliding all over the place in the car."

Northwood Cemetery, in Chestnut Avenue, Northwood, also remains closed until further notice because of health and safety fears.

The light snow is expected to last up until midday, when it will turn to rain, potentially washing it away or turning it to ice, making conditions more treacherous.
