A man who claimed he was too drunk to remember beating an innocent bystander to death in a park has failed to clear his name.

Sade Samanter, 23 (pictured below) was caged for life with Ibrahim Dualeh, then 34, for the murder of Abdullahi Osman in Dean Gardens, West Ealing, on August 11 2011 - a day after the worst of the infamous London riots.

Mr Osman, who was 31 and living near Hillingdon Hospital with his younger brother Abdinasir at the time, was hit over the head by Dualeh with a bottle of brandy, then stamped on and kicked as he lay on the ground during a brutal attack.

He died in hospital after suffering head injuries sustained when he crashed to the floor.

The pair had been drinking, and Samanter, at his trial at the Old Bailey in October 2012, claimed he had no memory of the attack.

When shown CCTV footage of him holding Mr Osman's arms, he said he must have been doing so to save him from a further assault.

At the Court of Appeal today (Wednesday), he argued that the jury's guilty verdict was "unsafe", and the trial judge was wrong to rule that there was sufficient evidence to allow a murder conviction.

But senior judges rejected the complaints and dismissed the appeal.

Samanter, of Whitecote Road, Southall, will serve at least 11-and-a-half years before he can apply for release on licence.
