Business owners are rejoicing after winning a six year battle with the council to get double yellow lines on a road where access is blocked by illegally parked vehicles.

Gerry Parry, 58, managing director of Profile Security in Sandow Commercial Estate in Sandow Crescent, Hayes, has thanked the Gazette after it highlighted the issue which he believes led to Hillingdon Council taking action.

We reported how vehicles were unable to access the road because cars parked on both sides of the narrow street despite parking restriction signs.

Mr Parry said: "I think this just shows the pressure of the press counts for a great deal, I was just a single voice but with the help of the paper I made it public knowledge and I think it put the council to shame."

Philomena Bach, director of environment and consumer protection at Hillingdon Council, said: "The council has now completed a consultation on proposals to extend the existing double yellow lines on the western side of Sandow Crescent, Hayes.

"As no objections have been received from residents we will progress works to install the lines as part of the council's Road Safety Programme within the next couple of months."
