HAREFIELD'S Katie Waissel bounced back from a difficult first week on the X Factor to wow the judges on Saturday night and sail through to the next live show.
After finishing in the bottom two last week and needing a judges' vote to survive, Katie had no such problems in her second outing with a stripped-down rendition of Etta James' I Would Rather Go Blind, that was highly praised.
The 24-year-old said prior to the show that she had been 'set free' after surviving the previous sing-off.
"I know people are expecting me to say I was mortified or I was horrified but no, it set me free.
"I can go out there and sing the song I want to sing. Louis Walsh saved me, and he saved my dignity."
Vowing to not finish in the bottom two again, she did just that by impressing all four judges with a soaring vocal performance.
Mr Walsh said: "I am so glad I saved you last week. I saved you because I thought you have a talent and you are a hard worker.
"You are very emotional, I think the people in the press are giving you a hard time but they are not judging you on your talent."
And Simon Cowell added: "I think she is showing her true self."
