A HARROW pub is serving ‘the fastest ale in the world’ as part of a month-long festival.

The Duck in the Pond pub, Kenton Lane, claims this record for Project Green, which is made with fresh, green hops instead of conventional dried hops.

The beer takes just 100 hours from hop field to bar.

The pub has three other guest ales including, Build a Rocket Boys, created by Indie band Elbow, and named after their latest album; an eco-friendly brew called Pure Gold; and Venus Black, which was brewed by an all-female group of British and Irish female brewers.

Pub manager Gary Payton said: “Project Green proved so popular among our guests last year, we decided to give them the opportunity to sample it again this November.

The green hopped ale is very different to regular beer, as the fresh hops create flavours that can never be repeated.”

Unlike regular ales, the flavours in a green-hopped ale cannot be refined at a later stage, and itrequires a highly-skilled brewer to make the 4.5 per cent alcohol tipple.

The Duck in the Pond is part of the Ember pub group, which was the first to make this type of ale. It is running the NovEmber Ale Festival until November 30.
