I enjoyed Kate Lucas's poem about the amount of works going on around the borough (Letters, September 26).

I too get frustrated when yet another set of temporary traffic lights holds me up.

However, I take a very different view to Kate Lucas on them.

The works seem to be about improving things in the community, and I for one know that things cannot suddenly happen overnight.

For years we have asked for various things to be done, so perhaps instead of criticising the council we should at least acknowledge the fact that they are doing something about it.

Short term pain for long term gain.
