A freight worker was taken to hospital this morning after being crushed between a forklift truck and a container.

Paramedics were called to the freight company Forship, in Shield Drive, Brentford, at 9.30am, where they treated a man reported to be in his 30s, before taking him to St Mary's Hospital, in Paddington, as a priority.

Keith Wakefield, the firm's manager, told getwestlondon his thoughts and those of other staff were with the worker, who he said was understood to be in a stable condition with two broken ribs.

He added that though he had not been at the scene of the incident he understood an empty forklift truck had rolled into him and crushed him against a container.

A spokeswoman for the London Ambulance Service said: "We were called to an incident in Shield Drive at 9.30am. We sent a single responder in a car, two ambulance crews and London's Air Ambulance.

"Our staff treated one patient, a man reported to be in his 30s, and he was taken to St Mary's Hospital as a priority."
