AN EMPLOYEE at a car breakdown company in Hayes has died after being crushed by the upper deck of a vehicle transporter.

The 49-year-old man was on the lower deck of a trailer at the Ontime Automotive car pound in Pasadena Close, on the Pump Lane Industrial Estate in Hayes, when the top level collapsed on top of him on Friday last week (May 31) at around 8.30am.

He died at the scene.

The man has yet to be formally identified, but police say his next of kin have been informed.

Justin Brinklow, managing director of Ontime Automotive said, "Ontime Automotive was saddened to hear of the fatal accident involving a member of our staff.

"Our deepest condolences go out to his family and friends at this difficult time. We are cooperating with the police and authorities to ascertain the full facts following the incident, and offering support to our staff.  Until then we can make no further comment."

No arrests have been made, and police say they are treating the death as 'unexplained'. The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) is also looking into the incident.
