Workers have begun to decommission an electricity substation to make way for 63 new homes in Shepherd’s Bush.

Developer United House has won the £10million contract to build 18 shared ownership homes with Notting Hill Housing alongside 45 flats for private sale at the corner of Hammersmith Grove and Goldhawk Road.

The housing association was given planning permission in March 2011 to redevelop the former garage and 15 flats above.

United House said it was working with UK Power Networks to safely remove the existing substation. Workers entered the site last month and the six-storey block is due to be completed in autumn 2015.

Jeffrey Adams, chief executive of United House, said: “United House has a strong track record of delivering technically challenging, mixed-use regeneration schemes in the capital.

“We are looking forward to working with Notting Hill Housing Group to bring new homes and a new focus to Hammersmith Grove.”

The scheme also includes 70 sq m of commercial space on the ground floor, basement car parking for 51 cars and secure bicycle storage.
