A WOMAN who followed her dream of a career in construction has been ranked among Britain's top 10 tradespeople.

Sarah Wain, 38, from Willesden, is hot property among the country's A-list, including royalty, restaurateurs, film producers, and actors who all want her to transform their homes.

Creative Ms Wain has been working as a builder, designer and project manager for 13 years and operates solely on recommendations. She has never had to advertise and has a waiting list of at least six months.

The former Savile Row manager was lucky enough to have grown up in some of the most beautiful houses in Holland Park and was inspired by her mother's flair for interior design.

But after her parents suddenly died, Ms Wain took a good look at her life and realised she was not fulfilling her dream. She successfully launched her construction business and is currently converting an old church in Notting Hill.

Ms Wain said: "A happy home makes for happy people. You walk through the door and whatever mood you are in, if your home is your sanctuary, you feel better about life. That is what I love about what I do."

Ms Wain was the only woman to make the top ten tradesmen in the country out of hundreds of builders, plumbers, electricians, painters, decorators, glaziers, roofers and gardeners.

She said: "I'm delighted to have been rated one of the top builders in the country, especially as a woman in a man's world. I have swapped my suit for a hard hat and have never looked back. I followed my dream and I hope that this will inspire others to follow their dreams too, irrespective of what people may expect of you."
