The widow of a man who died after being exposed to asbestos at work on the Elgin Estate in Paddingtron is appealing for help with a compensation claim.
Roger Cass died at the age of 77 from mesothelioma, a fatal cancer thought to have been contracted by exposure to asbestos dust and fibres while working as an architect.
During the 1960s, Mr Cass is known to have worked on the Elgin Estate, in Athens Gardens, North Paddington, where he was involved in a project to remove cladding which contained asbestos.
The estate was hit by scandal in 1989, when families were moved into asbestos-ridden blocks of flats Hermes and Chantry Points as part of Shirley Porter's 'Building Stable Communities' programme.
Between 1955 and 1986, Mr Cass worked in the housing division, then later for the Technical Information Group and Technical Support Unit for the London County Council (LCC), which later became the Greater London Council (GLC) and was abolished in 1986.
His wife, Irene Cass, 80, is hoping to seek compensation for her husband's death and has appealed for people who worked with her husband to come forward.
She said: "Following the diagnosis of mesothelioma, Roger's condition deteriorated rapidly.
"He became anxious and worried and during the last months leading up to his death, Roger suffered weight loss.
"He also became extremely frustrated at the acceleration of his illness and his inability to do things. He passed away in March 2006 and is missed dearly."
Tariq Khan, a lawyer representing Mrs Cass, added that they would like to hear from anyone working on the Elgin Estate, or on other developments across London, with Mr Cass.
He said: "Mr Cass was exposed to asbestos during his time working for London County Council, later known as the Greater London Council, and we're appealing for help from former employees. Employers have a duty to take precautions with asbestos. There's no safe type of asbestos and no safe level of asbestos exposure."
