More than 100 staff, volunteers and supporters attended the official opening of St Luke’s Hospice’s Woodgrange Centre, which has expanded capacity and widened services.

The £600,000 centre, created out of an extension to the western wing of the Kenton Grange, Kenton, building, provides new treatment and consultation rooms and houses St Luke’s Hospice's community, day care and outpatient teams under one roof.

It allows patients access to shorter day care consultations and therapy sessions for those who may not wish to attend the existing full day sessions.

Jo Archer, director of nursing and patient services, said: “We are proud to open officially the new Woodgrange Centre to the Brent and Harrow community.

“Thanks to local supporters and the generous donations in our Strengthen a Life summer campaign and the continued dedication of our staff and volunteers, we are able to help people at an earlier stage of their illness and improve their well-being and help them to stay active and independent for as long as possible.”

The ribbon was cut by the Mayor of Harrow, councillor Ajay Maru, on November 15 after the charity’s annual Christmas market in the grounds, which raised £4,000, had ended. Mr Maru joined supporters afterwards for a tour of the facility.

The centre will provide more complementary therapy sessions including acupuncture, aromatherapy and reflexology, helping to relieve pain, breathlessness, nausea and anxiety.
