A MAN from Northolt is set to climb Ben Nevis – in a wheelchair.

Sean McCallion, 35, is paralysed from the waist down after a snowboarding accident 10 years ago, having climbed the moutain- located in the Scottish Highlands – the day before.

But despite being told he would never walk again, he has turned his life around and is taking part in the epic journey for charity.

Proceeds from his stint later this year will go towards Back-Up, which helps newly-injured patients who suffer from paralysis, and Lochaber Mountain Rescue.

He said: "This is my way of saying thank you to two charities that I owe so much to. I haven't been back to Ben Nevis since I had my injury, but it's something I have been thinking about for years. I wanted to do something to mark how far I've come."

Sean got involved with Back-Up after attending a course several years ago and now heads front line services as Outreach and support management.

He has also been to Sri Lanka and Uganda to run health education and wheelchair skills training camps for spinal cord injured people there, and works on committees for wheelchair tennis and adaptive waterskiing in the UK.

Sean will be making the climb with a group of friends and his girlfriend, Clare, a physiotherapist whom he met at a Back-Up fund-raising event five years ago.
